Another blurry look at Toyota’s SAI hybrid

2010 Toyota SAI Hybrid Japan

Here’s a new glipmse of the Toyota SAI. The SAI’s the code name for Toyota’s Japanese version of the all new Lexus HS 250h… which is itself a modified version of a Toyota Corolla combined with a 3rd generation Prius.

The only details to surface so far are:

-As has been previously announced, Toyota plans of expanding the Prius range beyond a single vehicle. Currently, code-named the ‘SAI’, Toyota plans on having a larger hybrid that has more conventional styling and can slot in below the Camry in terms of size. The vehicle will be the base for the planned Lexus hybrid.
-The engine will be the THSIII version of the current 2.4L inline-4 THSII in the Camry hybrid.
-The rear trunk will be unique dual luggage lid system, being both a conventional rear trunk, that can also open up like a hatch.

The car’s set to go on sale in Japan in January 2010 and I doubt it’ll make a journey to the states.
