Honda’s recalling 50,000 cars in Canada and almost 400,000 in the United States because of an airbag problem that has resulted in atleast one fatality and a number of injuries.

The recall is an expansion of a recall made back in November that highlighted a problem with the driver’s steering wheel-mounted airbag inflator in some sedans exploding because of too much pressure. The rupture might result in metal fragments shooting through the airbag and possibly hitting occupants.

The expanded recall covers certain 2001 and 2002 Accords, Civics, and Acura ELs, as well as a small number of 2002 and 2003 Acura TLs. Customers with affected models will be contacted by Honda to arrange for the airbag to be replaced free of charge.

That sounds awfully scary. Wonder why it took so long to get recalled.

Hello Voula, owners can confirm their vehicle’s recall status by checking the Honda recall Web site or Acura’s recall Web site.

honda has a good record on recalls being very low, unfortunately testing can only drive out so much information/results. though I am happy they are continuing to upgrade there life safety systems.

The Honda recall Web site does not open with any useful info anymore. This should be corrected. Only the truth with clients will save those 2 companies, which bragged so shamelessly about the value they dliver
