Lexus’ Hybrid hatch to challenge BMW 1, Audi A3

Top Gear‘s putting the rumors aside to confirm that Lexus is planning to unveil a new BMW 1-Series and Audi A3 competitior at September’s Frankfurt Motor Show.
The five-door sports hatch will likely emerge as a Euro-only, hybrid-only model to woo the tree huggers and hippies that make up today’s easily impressed auto “journalists”. The hatch will be based on the Prius platform and likely wont have to do much to impress Lexus decision makers. Andy Pfeiffenberger, Lexus’ main man for their European division, called the compact segment “the fastest growing segment”, something he thinks Lexus “must be in”.

The goal for Lexus, it seems, is to make Hybrid for them what high-powered diesel is for the Germans. What they need to make is a cheap thrill. The rumored sale date is late 2010 with a price just shy of our base Lexus IS.

Innnnnteresting
Any similarity with this and the Lexus H or whatever they wanted to make in the states?
good luck man. beating the diesels? i doubt any hybrid engine will help any time soon.
They have to build it for us to find out. Nothing can be 1000% in this day and age, esp when it comes to green cars.
mr.indianautosblog.com, Who are you? Why can’t you use your own email id to comment? Its not such a bad idea to create one and use it.
i agree that hybrids are the best option today against fuel guzzlers. But I wonder if diesels will be threatened by them anytime in near future. Car makers need to better their act of fuel efficiency.
