Toyota Tacoma and Tundra Rust Problem

We’ve heard about Toyota Tacomas and Tundras being rust magnets but a new rash of complaints suggest the problem’s lingering around. Toyota trucks have long been known to turn into nothing but piles of dust but a group of customers has now brought it infront of the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

The claim is Tacomas and Tundras from 1995 – 2002 are suffering from dangerously deteriorating frames. The situtation’s so bad that some cars less than a decade old have been deemed unfit for road. One driver

In Toyota’s defense, they’ve been offering customers 1.5 times the Blue Book value of their trucks. Problem is not everyone’s getting their money and noone’s saying just how many trucks are affected.. let alone why they’re affected in the first place.

    I have always suspected, in the pursuit of profits, companies cut corners – some worse than others. And the most profitable car company is?

    Sometimes the most guilty are those trading with the most reputable name?

    I’ve owned Toyotas. No more relaible than any other car I’ve owned.

    This is very interesting. I always thought Toyota was the most reliable vehicles of the lot. Seems like it isn’t true. I remember reading somewhere Dacia pickup trucks coming with a coating of Zinc to retard rusting. Similar treatment can be adopted here?
