Dismal economic times have taken a blow on automakers and customers and autoshows around the world are having to take the hit.

The bi-annual Tokyo Motor Show has had to change things around for the traditionally popular event after a mere 14 carmakers confirmed their participation for the 2009 show that takes place over 13 days from October 23 to November 4, 2009. The last show, in 2007, was held over 17 days.

In 2007 the Tokyo Motor Show attracted 246 exhibitors from 11 countries whereas this year’s show has, until now, gotten the attention of 122 companies from 8 countries. The 14 automakers that have confirmed their participation for this year’s show include: Alpina, Daihatsu, Porsche, Ferrari, Subaru, Lotus, Honda, Hyundai, Maserati, Mazda, Mitsubishi, Nissan, Suzuki and Toyota.

That is pretty sad but not unexpected. @ least the Japanese brands will be there.

The LF-A & Toyota/Subaru coupe are rumored to be there.

Wonder if Honda/Acura will show anything interesting? Not the Insight …
